New Parents

Those experiencing parenthood for the first time are often contending with a cascade of emotions that cycle faster than they can keep up with. Some new parents, especially new mothers and birthing parents, find that feelings like sadness, overwhelm, exhaustion, rage, incompetence, and even remorse, overshadow the joy they’d been promised. There is often deep shame about having these feelings in the first place. And for some, these so-called ‘baby blues’ can balloon into full on postpartum mood and anxiety disorders, otherwise known as PMADs.

My first priority in treatment is to make sure new parents know just how common these feelings are, and that they are far from alone. I have been there myself.

Did you know:

  • One in five birthing parents, and one in ten non-birthing parents, will experience some form of PMADs within the first year postpartum

  • The most common complication of childbirth is PMADs

  • PMADs are highly treatable

Whether you are experiencing the baby blues, postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety, or something you can’t quite name, I am here to support you through this time. I work with new parents of all genders and birthing statuses on reestablishing your connection to self while developing your identity as a new parent. I have a particular affinity for working with LGBTQ+ parents, solo moms/solo parents, and parents who used assisted reproductive technology (ART) including IUI, IVF, donor sperm, donor eggs, embryo adoption, or surrogacy to conceive. I am currently in the process of becoming certified in perinatal mental health (PMH-C) by Postpartum Support International.
